Individuals who believe their talents can be developed (through hard work, good strategies, and input from others) have a growth mindset. They tend to achieve more than those with a more fixed mindset (those who believe their talents are innate gifts). This is because they worry less about looking smart and they put more energy into learning. When entire organisations embrace a growth mindset, their employees, volunteers, members, parents etc. report feeling far more empowered and committed; they also receive far greater organisational support for collaboration and innovation. In contrast, people at primarily fixed-mindset organisations report more of only one thing: cheating and deception among leaders, employees, volunteers members and others, presumably to gain an advantage in the talent race.

Mindset is a buzzword in many sectors and organisations, even working its way into their mission statements. But when we probe, you often discover that people’s understanding of the idea is limited. This workshop will look at three common misconceptions, how to embed a growth mindset culture across organisations, and provide attendees with tools, methods and techniques to lead organisational change towards creating an environment conducive to Growth Mindset.

This workshop will explore mindset and go beyond the theory of mindset and explore the different mindsets and where they exist in organisations.  It will also look at creating learning environments to improve practice, performance and productivity leading to a GM culture and will also explore effective implementation across clubs.

Aberdeen Sprint

The draw for Saturday’s sprint is now available at www.cofd.co.uk – racing from 11am onwards.

Can those racing please confirm availability on the new club calendar for boat loading at 6pm on Friday?

Outings – Instructions for Use

  1. Click on “Outings” in the top menu and sign in (if you haven’t used the remember me option).  If you have forgotten your chosen username then use your registered email address instead / use the password reset link if need be.
  2. The default view is the club’s calendar – click on an outing and then select “Attend”, “Maybe” or “Decline”.  You can see who else is coming (or not) by clicking on the number of responses tallied for each option.
  3. The “Dashboard” option provides information on outings that have recently been added and questions/polls that have been posted by club members (e.g. Anyone available for an outing at 18:00 next Wednesday?).  Feel free to respond.
  4. Boat bookings can be made from the calendar – click on the day you want to ensure a boat is available, then follow the on-screen prompts.  The “Profile Calendar” should be set to “Club Members”, put the boat you want to reserve in the event title and use “Boat Booking” for the “Event Type”.   Note that bookings can only be made outside standard club sessions.
  5. The weekly club sessions should update automatically and cover the next 6 weeks.
  6. If you want to ask a general question then go to “My Spaces->Club Members” and fill in the box at the top or click on polls to start a new poll.

Please note that we do not use the personal information that can be added under “Account Settings” (found by clicking on your username at the top right) so don’t add any of this information.  You can change the email notification settings etc. if you want.

If you are a club member and have not received an email inviting you to join then please get in contact with Dave R.

Aberdeen Sprint 25th August

The club is thinking of travelling through to Aberdeen for the sprint races on the 25th August and the two day regatta in October planned for 27th and 28th.
If there is interest we can perhaps haul the trailer through otherwise it might be car topping some boats, give it some thought and let Robert know if you might be interested.
Details will be published on the Committee of the Dee website in due course (www.cofd.co.uk).  Last years results are on that site which will give you some idea of what is involved – it’s good fun day and doesn’t require an overnight other than if you were to compete both days in October.
